Be your word

An insight into placing meaning to your word.

It’s easy for your own words to lose meaning.

When there’s an actual consequence for not following through with your words, like if you were to skip the gym after promising to meet your friend there, it’s a lot easier to commit. There’s somebody else holding you accountable in that situation, so there’s more incentive to stick to your word.

For many, their word doesn’t matter to them, and it’s very easy to tell. This is the person that can’t be trusted with any task or promise, won’t show up on time, or won’t be there when you need them.

So then what does it mean to be your word?

It means that anything you say has meaning and intent behind it.

It’s easy to recognize these people, as you’ll find that you naturally trust them. If they say they’ll do something, you can rely on them to fulfill their commitment. If they make a promise, you know it will be fulfilled. It’s the type of person that so many strive to be.

But there’s another level to it

Who is the person that we lie to, let down, and fail to follow through with the most?

Ourselves.

It’s extremely easily to justify breaking your own promises to yourself.

Who is going to judge you for it? Who is going to hold you accountable?

Nobody.

There’s no consequences, there’s no repercussions, there’s nobody to disappoint.

That’s where the power of ALWAYS being your word comes from. If you can live your word and truly embody it, it sets you apart. Being able to have the same amount of follow through when only YOU know about these promises enables limitless possibility and potential.

How much would you be able to accomplish if your word had meaning to yourself and others?

Where would you be? Where COULD you be a year from now if you started working on it today?

That’s for you to decide.
